Candy simple socks

After one last push, I've finished the candy coloured simple socks. I can't say why it's taken so long, except that socks don't really work for me as commuter knitting, and I don't feel like knitting them in the evenings.



I also picked up my neglected Sahara last week and started working on the second sleeve. I didn't pay close enough attention to the pattern though, and ended up working all the short rows incorrectly. Yesterday I bit the bullet and unknit them; it would have been faster to rip but it took me about 10 attempts to pick up the right number of stitches around the armhole, and I couldn't face doing that again.



The adventure bag is coming on, but it was a mistake to plan this as a summer project. I'm 200g through, and already it's too heavy and hot to deal with at this time of year. It's also not particularly portable.



The search for a good commuter project continues...

Computer surgery

Major crisis with the laptop this week! I accidentally hit the Dell media button instead of the on/ off button, and this caused the whole operating system to implode. I seem to remember when I first learned to use a computer that we were told we could hit any key, and we couldn't break the computer. Not true!


After several hours of rebooting, trying safe mode, trying to boot from disk and finally re-installing Windows, we gave up. I've spent much of the weekend shuttling back and forth to the computer doctor, who managed to retrieve the data files. We then had to have a full factory reset. Touch wood, it's working again now, but needless to say, I'm keen to tape over the button that caused the problem.




On the knitting front, I'm making progress with Sahara. I knitted the lace neck edging before finishing the length, as I just couldn't assess how much it would ride up until the neckline was done. The lace is slightly fiddly, but the key is just to keep counting and checking on the increase rows. I picked up a stitch every second row, and did four repeats of the lace pattern instead of three.

Sahara body

I've mostly been working on Sahara, and have got to the point where the body is knitted in the round. Although it's knitted top down, trying it on is misleading because there's a gaping hole in the front. I had bought some sparkly yarn for the neckline, but it now looks too much combined with the variegated yarn, so I think I will use the main yarn throughout.



The only modification I've made so far is to eliminate one set of waist decreases and to join the front marginally earlier.

Not much progress on seaming Sunrise Circle. I've only managed one raglan seam. The yarn isn't good for seaming, as it keeps breaking under tension, but I haven't got anything else in a similar colour, so I'll probably keep going.



It's heating up again, with a scorcher predicted for this weekend, so I'm quite pleased to have made an early start on the summer knitting.

Starting Sahara

I've made a start on the latest SKC project, Sahara. I'm using some Lana Grossa from stash for it. Not sure about the striping and the yarn tangles dreadfully, but I'm persevering. It also looks very small, but it is stretchy.



I blocked the pieces of sunrise circle, and they definitely are flatter and better behaved. No excuse not to get on with the making up then...
